After the success of The Hurt Locker, Hollywood is greenlighting a slew of films about the newest hot button issue in foreign warfare, Killer Machines:
Hugh Jackman is starring in Real Steel playing “an ex-fighter who becomes a promoter when human boxing is outlawed for being too violent. The new gladiators are 2,000-pound robots with human qualities. His access to sub-standard robot parts hampers his hopes for glory in Robot Boxing, until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win.” (Dark Horizons)
Diary of a Wimpy Kid‘s Nina Jacobson is developing “The Dominion, a sci-fi thriller which centers on a human who is chosen to command an army’s first-ever platoon of robotic soldiers.”
“It’s a great really interesting subject matter,” she told us. “It’s been very educational for me actually to learn all about military robotics. My writer’s actually about to turn the script in to the studio in the next couple of days and hopefully we’ll start looking for directors soon.” (Coming Soon)
It seems clear that this is a response to the first strike robot offensive Japan initiated this year with the Prius (Perpetually Rolling Incarceration Unit Soldier) and the recent discovery of the sleeper cell Honda killing machines, the 2007/2008 Odyssey and Element (We all know about Honda’s previous Robotic mercenary Asimo (Autonimous Soldier Instructing Mechanical Overlords)). Whether or not we stand a chance in this coming “Robopocalypse” purely rests on the shoulders of Artificial Intelligence expert Steven Spielberg and strategist Daniel H. Wilson, whose work in progress is a battle plan against the impending Robot Invasion.
“The latest title gaining steam among speculators is Robopocalypse, now that Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard has been hired to adapt the Daniel H Wilson epic about the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising. Wilson hasn’t finished the book yet, but word is Goddard has gotten underway and that it’s a serious candidate.” (Deadline.com)
Steven Spielberg will be leading mankind against this uprising once he gets the battle plan from Wilson and Goddard, since former cybernetics expert James Cameron is unavailable due to his changing vocation and his current work on a way to defend alien planets against human invasion.
